What are your rates?
Rates are determined based on the type of service provided (lesson vs therapy), location (in the studio vs in your home vs online), and frequency of lessons (weekly vs one-time). Please contact me for the current rates.
Do you teach group classes?
Yes, group settings can be a great way to learn, especially with friends or new ones you make while you learn. They’re also less expensive than individual lessons, which is a great way to save money when you’re just trying out a new instrument.
I’ve taught adult guitar classes in person, I’ve taught four little children their first lessons on piano via Zoom, and I’ve taught summer camps both in person and online. Bring it on!
When should my child start taking lessons?
In my experience the best age is between 4 and 7 years old, for most children. Fine motor skills (especially finger independence), eye-hand coordination, and basic reading are being built during this time and music strengthens those skills even more!
What books do you use?
Piano: a combination of Faber Piano Adventures, Wunderkeys, and my own method of teaching chord charts which is individualized to each student’s preferred music.
Guitar and ukulele: Hal Leonard and a variety of other resources, depending on the student’s preferred music.
Violin and viola: a hybrid of Suzuki, Whistler, and other tools I have found to be useful and not-so-repetitive.
Where do you teach?
At my studio in Sterling, online via Discord, and in homes (limited availability around Northern Virginia depending on several factors).
How does billing work?
Semester students pay at the beginning of the semester and students taking individual sessions pay per lesson. More details available.
Do you teach music theory?
Yes! I teach written theory, ear training, and sight singing. All three are incorporated into lessons and you can also choose to focus on theory exclusively.
Can I try several different instruments?
As long as it’s an instrument I can teach and you have one you can use for practice, sure!
Is there a free trial available?
No, but you can schedule a trial lesson before committing to a full semester.
Can you help me grow as a worship leader?
Yes! I have years of experience as a worship leader and understand the unique skills and process needed for the setting.
